PRINCIPAL NIET

It gives me immense pride to highlight the Research and Development Cell of Nigam Institute of Engineering and Technology (NIET), which is headed with dedication and vision by myself, Prof. Dr. Jyoti Prasad Patra. Our R&D cell stands as a hub of innovation, academic excellence, and knowledge creation.

The remarkable progress we have achieved is the result of the tireless efforts of our hardworking scholars and faculty members, whose commitment to research and intellectual growth continues to uplift the stature of NIET. Together, we are nurturing an ecosystem that fosters creativity, collaboration, and impactful contributions to science, technology, and society.

At NIET, we strongly believe that research is the driving force of quality education, and we remain committed to advancing the boundaries of knowledge while preparing our students to meet the challenges of tomorrow.

Expectations:

The institutional expectations from faculty and research scholars include the following commitments and responsibilities:

Commitment to Research Quality:

Faculty and research scholars are expected to create or associate with formal research groups, laboratories, or research centres focused on specialized domains. They must document comprehensively the details of projects, members, processes, activities and outcomes for continuous improvement and institutional knowledge building. Regular scheduling of activities like periodic seminar talks, research meetings, progress reviews, and knowledge sharing sessions is essential for maintaining research momentum and fostering collaborative learning environments.

Research Ethics:

All research community members must conduct awareness meetings about research ethics involving but not limited to critical issues such as plagiarism prevention, research claims verification, managing human subjects with proper consent, privacy protection, data security, ethics of online behavior, intellectual property rights (IPR), patent filing procedures, and responsible AI research practices. These ethical guidelines ensure that NIET's research maintains the highest standards of academic integrity and social responsibility.

Resource Generation:

Research personnel are expected to proactively involve themselves in proposing research projects to research centres, government agencies, or external funding agencies like DST, SERB, AICTE, and international organizations. They must actively collaborate with other faculty members, industry partners, and external agencies to propose research agendas that push the state of the art and address relevant social challenges, particularly in areas of sustainable technology, smart systems, and educational innovation that align with NIET's research strengths.

Social Outreach:

Faculty and scholars must proactively involve themselves in making their research relevant to stakeholders in the larger interest of society, with special focus on regional development needs of Odisha and rural technology applications. This includes engaging in technology transfer activities, community outreach programs, and knowledge dissemination initiatives to benefit local industries and communities, ensuring that NIET's research has meaningful real-world impact.
